Last Chance to See the Life-Size Unicorn Gundam in Tokyo: Final Day August 31, 2026
FINAL DAY: AUGUST 31, 2026

If seeing the giant Unicorn Gundam in Tokyo has been on your Japan bucket list, time is officially running out. This has been truly sad and difficult news for us and many.
After nearly nine years standing outside DiverCity Tokyo Plaza in Odaiba, the Life-Size RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Statue will end its display on August 31, 2026.
The statue has been one of Odaiba’s most recognizable landmarks since opening on September 24, 2017, and for Gundam fans, it has become one of those places that almost feels mandatory to visit while in Tokyo.
And instead of quietly disappearing, the Unicorn Gundam is getting a proper send-off.
If you are currently in Tokyo—or arriving before the end of August—this is your last chance to see the Unicorn Gundam in Odaiba before the exhibition officially ends. I highly recommend you do!
When Is the Unicorn Gundam Leaving Odaiba?
The final day to see the Life-Size Unicorn Gundam Statue at DiverCity Tokyo Plaza is:
Monday, August 31, 2026
The statue originally opened in September 2017 and will have spent approximately 8 years and 11 months in Odaiba by the time its display ends.
For its final months, the statue has also received special decorations designed by Gundam mechanical designer Hajime Katoki. The farewell version is officially called, RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Ver. TWC FINAL. The special design has been on display since June 20 and will remain through the final day on August 31.
So even if you have seen the Unicorn Gundam during a previous trip to Japan, the final version gives fans something different to see before saying goodbye. We are sad we wont be able to.
Special Unicorn Gundam Finale Show: “BEYOND POSSIBILITY”
There is another reason to visit during the final days.
From August 22 through August 31, a special nighttime presentation called, UNICORN GUNDAM Statue – BEYOND POSSIBILITY, is being shown as part of the statue’s finale.
The limited performance was created specifically for the last ten days of the Unicorn Gundam exhibition.
The current nighttime schedule is:
- 7:00 PM: MidNight CHA CHA
- 7:30 PM: Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn Special Movie Ver. 2.0 Cage
- 8:00 PM: UNICORN GUNDAM Statue – BEYOND POSSIBILITY –
- 8:30 PM: Remastered video FLY! GUNDAM 2017
- 9:00 PM: Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn Perfectibility
- 9:30 PM: GUNDAM:BEYOND
The special finale presentation is currently scheduled at 8:00 PM each night through August 31. Performances can be changed or canceled because of weather or other circumstances, so I recommend checking the official Unicorn Gundam website before making a special trip.
Check the official website for the descriptions of each event.
Important: August 29 Performance Changes
There is a Life-Size Unicorn Gundam Final Ceremony scheduled for Saturday, August 29, and several of the regular performances will not take place that day.
The official schedule currently shows the following daytime performances:
- 11:00 AM – scheduled
- 1:00 PM – scheduled
- 3:00 PM – scheduled
- 5:00 PM – suspended
For the evening, the 7:00 PM, 7:30 PM, 8:00 PM and 8:30 PM performances are suspended because of the Final Ceremony.
The 9:00 PM and 9:30 PM performances are currently scheduled to take place normally.
Tip: If your main goal is to see the special BEYOND POSSIBILITY presentation at 8:00 PM, choose another night rather than August 29.
Does the Unicorn Gundam Still Transform?

Yes, although the transformation has had some mechanical issues in the past.
The statue experienced a malfunction in 2025 that temporarily left it fixed in Destroy Mode. The transformation performance later resumed, although the official site notes that some shoulder movement remains limited.
The current daytime transformation schedule is:
11:00 AM
1:00 PM
3:00 PM
5:00 PM
If you have never seen the Unicorn Gundam before, I would highly recommend to try to catch both a daytime transformation and one of the nighttime shows.
Tip: The statue is impressive during the day simply because of its scale, but seeing the Psycho-Frame illuminated at night honestly gives the experience a completely different feel.
Where Is the Life-Size Unicorn Gundam?
The Unicorn Gundam is located at the Festival Plaza outside DiverCity Tokyo Plaza in Odaiba.
Location:
DiverCity Tokyo Plaza
1-1-10 Aomi, Koto City, Tokyo
The statue itself is outside the shopping center, so you do not need to purchase admission to see it.
One of the great things about visiting the Gundam is that it is also easy to combine with the rest of Odaiba. You could spend several hours in the area and include the Gundam as part of a larger Odaiba itinerary rather than traveling there only for the statue.
Tip: I highly recommend to check out teamLab Planets Tokyo nearby.
Don’t Skip The Gundam Base Tokyo

If you are already making the trip to see the Unicorn Gundam, Gundam fans should also head inside DiverCity Tokyo Plaza.
The Gundam Base Tokyo is located on the 7th floor and is one of the largest official Gunpla-focused facilities in Japan. It includes areas dedicated to shopping, displays, Gunpla building and Gundam-related exhibits.
The Gundam Base Tokyo currently lists its regular operating hours as 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Saturday & Sunday and 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM on weekdays.
For Gunpla fans, I would allow extra time here. It is very easy to go upstairs thinking you are going to “just look” and suddenly realize you have spent much longer there than planned. Trust me!
Why the Unicorn Gundam Became Such an Iconic Tokyo Stop
Tokyo has no shortage of anime attractions, but there is something different about seeing a Gundam at full scale.
You don’t have to be a hardcore fan to understand the impact when you walk into the plaza and suddenly have an enormous mobile suit towering above you. That was definitely my experience and it’s still my favorite life sized to visit.

For Gundam and Gunpla fans, though, it means more. The Unicorn Gundam has stood in Odaiba since 2017, replacing the previous life-size RX-78-2 Gundam and becoming part of the Tokyo experience for an entire generation of visitors.
For nearly nine years, people traveling from around the world have been able to combine a day in Odaiba with something that normally only exists on an anime screen or as a model kit sitting on a shelf.
That is what will make seeing the plaza without Unicorn Gundam feel so weird after August.
What Will Replace the Unicorn Gundam?
For now, this may be the biggest question.
The official announcement confirms that the Unicorn Gundam exhibition ends August 31, 2026, but it does not announce a direct replacement for the statue at DiverCity Tokyo Plaza.
That means I would be cautious about rumors claiming that a specific Gundam will immediately replace it.
Bandai Namco has announced broader plans for new Gundam attractions in Japan, including a new “Gundam Landmark” initiative, but that announcement does not currently confirm that the project will replace the Unicorn Gundam in Odaiba.
If an official replacement is announced, we will definitely update this post.
Should You Make a Special Trip Before August 31?
If you’re already going to be in Tokyo: YES!
Especially if you:
- Love Gundam or Gunpla
- Have never seen a life-size Gundam
- Are visiting Odaiba anyway
- Have seen the statue before but want to see the special final version
- Want to catch the limited finale nighttime presentation
After almost nine years, this isn’t simply another temporary anime pop-up disappearing. The Unicorn Gundam has become part of Odaiba.
There will undoubtedly continue to be incredible Gundam attractions around Japan, but this particular version of the Tokyo Gundam experience is coming to an end.
So if you’re in Tokyo before August 31, 2026, take the opportunity. Take too many pictures! Watch it transform! Come back after dark if you can. And take one last look at the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam before it leaves the Tokyo skyline and say your farewells.
